My name is Francesca . I come from Rome, Italy. I participated in the Erasmus Project during the academic year 2009/10. I chose to apply for a semester at the Bangor University, Wales (UK), because I wanted to improve my English. When I won the scholarship I knew I was going to attend one of the best universities in UK and have a great educational experience, but I didn’t know it was going to change my life.

The Erasmus project gave me the opportunity to learn and study in a different academic context, in a different country, in a different language. This experience allowed me to make a great life experience that deeply changed me: it was like a huge breaking point in my life. Professionally, my English was improved in a very satisfying way. In fact, the high language level achieved allowed me to participate in many others studying experiences abroad, like seminars, conferences, and carry out a research thesis in Brussels.

In Erasmus, my character was put to the test so many times that I have recently realized that if I am the strong and reliable person I am today, it is thanks to the Erasmus experience. Living alone in Wales and having to adapt to new customs and attitudes was a wild experience, in a very positive sense. After that, I felt like I could achieve anything. I grew up and I became a much stronger, wiser and more open-minded person. After that, no challenge I face is a really scary one because now I know that I can do it, no matter how much difficult it is, I know that I am able to make all the necessary efforts to make a success of it. I developed a sense of empowerment and self-esteem which is difficult to get at such a young age from any other experience.

I met a lot of people who became my family and my best friends. All together we experienced something very special that will bind us forever. Now, I have friends from all over the world, especially from Europe. That is why I am convinced that the Erasmus experience is one of the best means to develop a real European awareness and to build a real consciousness of what being a European Union citizen means.

Now, I am experiencing another amazing EU Project: the Leonardo Da Vinci Project. Right now, I am writing from Seville, where I am serving an internship at the “Fundación Juventud y Cultura”: an association dealing with EU Mobility Projects. This is my fist working experience abroad, and by now, I can say it is simply perfect to me, giving my academic background: a Bachelor Degree in Languages and Translation and a Master Degree in European Studies. Thanks to the amazing Erasmus experience, and to this new ongoing Leonardo Da Vinci experience, I feel that my character, my skills, and my competence are being reinforced even more.

ITALIANO
