Maite – Experience in Belfast

Story in English:

I spent several years working in a movie theater/ theater and later as an intern at a production company. But because of the crisis I was unemployed, and at the University I had not participated in any Erasmus program, I thought it was a great opportunity to enrich my professional experience and resume working abroad. With this opportunity I wanted to expand my skills, improve my resume and improve my English which is so important today. I also wanted to know a completely different culture to ours, learn about the history of the country. So I chose Northern Ireland as a destination, because I was very interested in the cultural and political situation. The relationship with the host company was unbeatable. They taught me a lot about the field of management of cultural spaces. I improved my English enough. And thanks to the good relationship with the company, I could expand my contacts (networking). I’m still in touch with them and don’t rule out going to Belfast in the future if things go wrong with the labour market here.

It has opened my mind in the sense that today’s labor market is the world, and thanks to the ease of mobility within the EU, there is an open area of hope for young people who are willing to work and we are tired of the crisis in this country that cares so little about the future for its citizens. For this reason, these programs are NECESSARY, hopefully  they do not disappear.

I totally recommend to others to participate in a mobility experience. It’s an experience you have to live at least once in life. I describe my experience as enriching, positive and recommendable.

Story in Spanish:

Estuve varios años trabajando en un cine-teatro y posteriormente de becaria en una productora audiovisual. Pero a causa de la crisis me quedé en paro, y como en la Universidad no había participado en ningún programa Erasmus, pensé que era una gran oportunidad para enriquecer mi experiencia profesional y curriculum trabajando en el exterior. Con esta oportunidad quería ampliar mis competencias profesionales, mejorar mi Curriculum Vitae y perfeccionar el inglés que tan importante es hoy en día. Así como conocer una cultura totalmente diferente a la nuestra, aprender sobre la historia del país. Por eso elegí Irlanda del Norte como destino, porque estaba muy interesada en su situación cultural y política. La relación con la empresa de acogida fue inmejorable. Me enseñaron mucho sobre el campo de la gestión de espacios culturales. Mejoré bastante mi nivel de inglés. Y gracias a la buena relación con la empresa, pude ampliar mis contactos (networking). Aún sigo en contacto con ellos y no descarte en un futuro viajar a Belfast si las cosas no marchan bien, laboralmente, aquí.

Me ha abierto la mente en el sentido de que hoy en día el mercado laboral es el mundo, y gracias a las facilidades de movilidad dentro de la Unión Europea, hay un campo abierto a la esperanza para los jóvenes que estamos deseando trabajar y estamos hartos de la crisis de este país que tan poco cuida el futuro de sus ciudadanos. Por eso son NECESARIOS este tipo de programas, esperemos que no desaparezcan.

Totalmente recomendaría a otras personas participar en una experiencia de movilidad. Es una experiencia que hay que vivir al menos una vez en la vida. Describo mi experiencia como: enriquecedora, positiva y recomendable.
