Nailing Vienna!

The “Leonardo Da Vinci” mobility is an excellent opportunity to have a meaningful experience abroad. I think that was what I needed to feel ready to enter inside the labour market more seriously, with commitment and motivation. During my studies I did not do the Erasmus or any other mobility programme, and even though I live alone since I moved from Faro to Lisbon, I had never previously lived outside Portugal.

When I decided to apply for the XPTO III program, I was looking for new career opportunities and new experiences. Since I had finished my degree, I had already done some internships in a few studios and agencies. I always tried to stay active, even while finalizing the master. However, I felt the need to go through something new: new experiences, new realities, and broaden my horizons.

In the end, this experience was for me much more than I had hoped! I am grateful to have had this opportunity and I am sure it will bring good consequences in my future! Both professionally and personally!

First, because I never thought I would live in a fantastic city as Vienna. A beautiful city where I feel good and where I can identify myself a lot with the culture, with the lifestyle, the architecture, the tranquillity, the security … There is always plenty to do and see in Vienna, especially related to artistic fields as mine: museums, design fairs, art and culture festivals, etc.

Then, because the Internship itself surpassed all my expectations. As an intern at Lomography, I realized what it is in the design area that I really identify myself working and where I want to invest in my career. The working conditions are great too. I was very welcomed and I had all the necessary support for carrying out my duties. I felt that the feedback was equally satisfying and that my work was being valued. The best was being invited to extend my internship for 3 more months, in the same company! So in January I’ll be back to this wonderful city that, something tells me, still has much to offer me!

So far, the time I spent there, the new contacts and friendships I made with people of different nationalities and cultures, living away from home, and in a completely different place than the one I was used to, enriched me and made me learn to see the world and the opportunities that appear in front of me in another way, without fear of taking risks. Thanks to this experience I became a much more self sufficient person, expectant and willing to go further in my way!

A bolsa de mobilidade “Leonardo Da Vinci” é uma optima oportunidade para ter uma experiência significativa no estrangeiro. Acho que era o que me faltava para me sentir pronta para entrar no mercado de trabalho com mais seriedade, empenho e motivação. Durante os meus estudos não tinha feito Erasmos, ou qualquer outro programa de mobilidade, e, apesar de já viver sozinha desde que me mudei de Faro para Lisboa, nunca tinha vivido anteriormente fora de Portugal. 

Quando decidi me candidatar ao programa XPTO III, estava à procura de novas oportunidades profissionais, novas experiências. Desde que tinha terminado a licenciatura, tinha já realizado estágios em alguns ateliers e agencias, e sempre tentei me manter activa, mesmo enquanto finalizava o mestrado. No entanto, sentia que precisava de passar por alguma coisa nova, viver novas realidades, e alargar os meus horizontes.

No final, esta experiência foi para mim muito mais do que estava à espera! Sinto-me grata por ter tido esta oportunidade que tenho a certeza, me vai trazer conseqüências boas no meu futuro! Tanto a nível profissional como pessoal!

Primeiro, porque nunca imaginei que iria viver numa cidade tao fantástica como é Viena. Uma cidade linda, onde me sinto bem e onde me identifico bastante com a cultura, com o estilo de vida, a arquitetura, a tranqüilidade, a segurança… Há sempre muito para fazer e para ver em Viena, especialmente relacionado com a minha área: museus, feiras de design, festivais de arte e cultura, etc.

Depois, porque o estágio em si superou todas as minhas expectativas. O estágio na Lomography, fez me perceber qual é a area do design com que realmente me identifico e onde quero investir na minha carreira. As condições de trabalho são ótimas, fui muito bem recebida e tive todo o apoio necessário para a realização das minhas tarefas. Senti que o feedback foi igualmente gratificante e que o meu trabalho estava a ser valorizado. A cereja no topo do bolo, foi ter sido convidada para prolongar o meu estágio por mais 3 meses, na mesma empresa! Por isso, em Janeiro estarei de volta a esta maravilhosa cidade, que, alguma coisa me diz, ainda tem muito para me oferecer!

Até agora, o tempo que passei aqui, o contacto e amizades que fiz com pessoas de diferentes nacionalidades e culturas, o viver longe de casa, num sitio completamente diferente do que aquele a que estava habituada fez me enriquecer e aprender a ver o mundo e as oportunidades que nos aparecem de outra maneira, sem receios de arriscar. Graças a esta experiência eu tornei-me numa pessoa muito mais auto suficiente, expectante e com vontade de ir mais longe no meu caminho!
