Roberta – Everyone should have more than one experience abroad!

A Story by Roberta Passaretti

Country of origin: Italy. Destination: Spain, Austria

English version

Since I was little child I always wanted to go and live abroad and thanks to my parents, every opportunity was good to spend some time abroad. As soon as the opportunity to go on an Erasmus turned up, I accepted without thinking over too long: destination, Spain!

Spending six months in a pretty close contact with people who belong to such similar and, at the same time, different culture from your one, meeting people from all over the world, living far away, in a country characterized by a different language, definitely changes you. All this apects help you to literrally grow up, to see the world from different points of view you would have never considered before.

Everything is a new experience: shopping as well as hanging out. You feel as the world doors are finally open to you.

After finishing the university, the Erasmus experience urged me not to try to find something in my country, but to go directly abroad. It was not due to the economic crisis, I just wanted to realize my dream to live out of Italy.

Today I live and work in Vienna, and I must admit that there is no day that I regret the choice I made. I am proud of my origin and thanks to the experience abroad and to the one I am living now, I can consider myself as a “European–Italian”.

Everyone should have the opportunity to spend a few months abroad, not once but several times and, if possible, in different countries. Not even all the money in the world can enrich you as much as this experience can do!
