That was definitely the best experience in my life!
Everything started in 2002 when I was attending the last semeseter at the University… I applied and I was chosen to take part in a Leonardo Da Vinci Project in Leuwen. I spent 6 months working in the biggest private research center specialized in electronics, writing and finalizing at the same time my thesis. It was the first experience abroad alone, I had to learn how to live on my own and manage a budget that I was paid monthly. For the first time I got in touch with a variety of cultures and nationalities, with different ways of living and behaving, with people I immediately felt comfortable with and I am still in contact with. When I left the euro had just been introduced and I was standing right in the middle of this great new reality, the fact that I was staying in Leuwen for six months gave me the chance to visit different cities in several countries, this mobility together with close friendships with people of different nazionalities made me feel for the first time a European citizen.
This experience made me not only make friends but also made me meet my future girlfriend. After six months I had a network of friends and I felt in Leuwen as I was at home. I recommend everyone to spend some time abroad because such an experience can widen our horizons and enables us to evaluate things differently and consider our home country form a different point fo view … I think that the comparison is the most effective way to be able to “grow” in all senses and to possibly evaluate different aspects objectively. In my opinion a period abroad during school and university should be compulsory for everyone of us.
Leuwen :I 6 mesi piu´belli della mia vita
Sicuramente l´esperienza piu´bella della mia vita!
Tutto inizio´ nel 2002 quando stavo frequentando l´ultimo semestre dell´universita´…mi candidai e fui scelto per partecipare ad un progetto Leonardo a Leuwen. Avrei trascorso i 6 mesi successivi presso il piu´grande centro di ricerca privato specializzato in elettronica scrivendo e ultimando nel contempo la tesi di laurea. Era la prima esperienza all´estero da solo… ho dovuto imparare a gestirmi e a gestire un budget che mi veniva erogato mensilmente con il quale dovevo mantenermi e pagare l´affitto. Per la prima volta mi sono confrontato con svariate culture e nazionalita´, con modi di vivere e di comportarsi differenti, con persone con le quali mi sono immediatamente sentito a mio agio e con le quali sono ancora oggi sono in contatto. Quando sono partito era appena stato introdotto l´Euro e io mi trovavo proprio al centro di questa nuova grande realta´, stare a Leuwen per 6 mesi mi ha dato la possibilita´di visitare diverse citta´ in svariati paesi, proprio questa facilita´di movimento unitamente alle amicizie strette con gente di diversa nazionalita´ mi ha fatto sentire per la prima volta cittadino europeo.
Questa esperienza non solo mi ha fatto stringere amicizie ma mi ha anche fatto conoscere quella che poi sarebbe diventata la mia ragazza. Dopo 6 mesi avevo una rete di amicizie sconfinate e mi sentivo a Leuwen come a casa. Consiglio a tutti di trascorrere un periodo all´estero perche´apre gli orizzonti e ci permette di valutare le cose in maniera differente e di vedere anche il nostro paese di provenienza con occhi diversi…credo che il confronto sia il modo piu´efficace per poter „crescere“ in tutti i sensi e per eventualmente valutare diversi aspetti in maniera oggettiva. Sono dell´opinione che un periodo all´estero debba essere obbligatorio durante il percorso scolastico e universitario di ognuno di noi.
