My name is Catarina, I’m 26 years old and I’m from Portugal. I participated in an ERASMUS+ program in Vienna, Austria from 12/04/2015 to 18/07/2015 and it was one of the greatest opportunities for my growth, knowledge, personal and professional development.
The Language Course was a good experience which helped me to gain a basic knowledge of the german language.. Some difficulties of pronunciation is considered natural due to the great difference between the Latin and Germanic language.
The experience was very enriching, because in addition to being in a beautiful city with history, I was lucky to be placed in an organization where I was extremely well received along with an excellent work environment.
I was working in research (calls for the presentation of projects between the EU and India, updating lists of institutions in the areas of environment, food safety, energy and natural resources and research institutions in the Southeast Asia with a possibility of cooperation in the environmental area. I was working on 3 projects;
1. INNO Indigo: Supports the advancement of the cooperation policy between the EU and India in research and innovation
2. INNO Policy: Innovation – targeted initiative for the development and integration of research between India and Europe
3. I-ASEAN: Supports and reinforces the cooperation on sustainable development between Europe and South East Asia.
On the level of personal experience, the adjustment was easier than I expected it to be and the people were very accessible. With a flexible timetable as I had. I managed to take advantage of all the days to the fullest, visiting museums, palaces or even stroll around the large gardens of the city during the afternoon or on the weekend. With the advantage of Austria being in the center of Europe it makes it all that more easier to gain access to public transport for travel, letting me visit Bratislava, Prague and Budapest.
Here we have the opportunity to get to know about different cultures, languages and habits, which end up changing our way of looking at life. Through some friendly people I managed to give continuity to the activity of voluntary work that I undertook in Portugal, enrolling myself and working with the “Caritas&Du” in helping those who are most in need.
While at the beginning there was no space in my mind to think about the possibility of a future life in Vienna without my friends or family, once I returned back home, I had this sense of mixed feelings, since I wanted to return to Vienna and this time for a longer time. I decided recently to return to Vienna and deepen my knowledge of the German language, considering the hypothesis of temporarily installing myself here in order to continue with my development and growth.
.This being an opportunity not to be missed, whoever can make the most and without any fear, because all the knowledge and growth that this experience gives you is certainly an added value to our personal development and the development of our countries.
Chamo-me Catarina, tenho 26 anos e sou de Portugal. Participei no programa ERASMUS+ em Viena de Áustria de 12/04/2015 a 18/07/2015, tendo sido uma das maiores oportunidades de crescimento, de conhecimento e de desenvolvimento pessoal e profissional.
O curso de línguas foi uma boa experiência que me ajudou a ter um conhecimento básico da língua. Algumas dificuldades de pronúncia que são consideradas naturais, visto a grande diferença entre línguas latinas e germânicas.
A experiência foi muito enriquecedora, porque além de ser uma cidade bonita e com história, tive a sorte de ser colocada numa organização onde fui extremamente bem recebida e com um excelente ambiente de trabalho.
Eu trabalhei em projetos de pesquisa (chamadas para apresentação de projetos entre a UE e a Índia, atualização de listas de instituições nas áreas de ambiente, segurança alimentar, energia e recursos naturais e instituições de pesquisa do Sudeste Asiático com possibilidade de cooperação na área ambiental. Participei em 3 projetos, INNO Indigo (suporta o avanço da política de cooperação entre a UE e a Índia em matéria de investigação e inovação), INNO (inovação política – iniciativa orientada para o desenvolvimento e integração da investigação entre a Índia e a Europa) e EU-ASEAN (apoia e reforça a cooperação em matéria de desenvolvimento sustentável entre a Europa e a Ásia sul-oriental).
Ao nível de experiências pessoais, a adaptação foi mais fácil do que eu esperava e as pessoas muito mais acessíveis do que eu pensava. Com um horário flexível como eu tinha, eu conseguia aproveitar todos os dias ao máximo, visitar museus, palácios ou mesmo passear nos grandes jardins da cidade durante a tarde ou ao fim-de-semana. O fato de estar no centro da Europa e aproveitando a acessibilidade dos transportes consegui ainda visitar Bratislava, Praga e Budapeste.
Neste tipo de experiências, temos a oportunidade de conhecer diferentes culturas, línguas e hábitos que acabam por mudar a nossa maneira de ver a vida. Através de algumas pessoas amigas consegui dar continuidade ao trabalho voluntário que já exercia em Portugal, inscrevendo-me e trabalhando com a “Caritas&Du” na ajuda aos mais carenciados.
Enquanto ao início a grande dificuldade foi pensar na nossa vida durante o período de estágio, sem a nossa família, os nossos amigos e a nossa língua, foi com um misto de emoções que no final eu tive que voltar para Portugal.
Decidi agora voltar a Viena e aprofundar o conhecimento da língua alemã, considerando a hipótese de me instalar definitivamente e dar continuidade ao meu desenvolvimento e crescimento.
Sendo esta uma oportunidade a não ser desperdiçada, quem tiver esta oportunidade deverá agarrá-la sem quaisquer medos, porque todo o conhecimento e crescimento que se adquire com esta experiência é certamente uma mais-valia para o nosso desenvolvimento e o desenvolvimento do nosso país.
