Having always being interested in the tourism sector, I recently did a course called TATAN (Technicienne D’Accueil Touristique option Animation – Hosting / Welcoming Tourist Host). During this training, I did three internships. For my second internship, I was offered the opportunity to go abroad (with the Leonardo Di Vinci project).

Therefore, I left for England, more precisely, London for a month (18 February to 15 March 2013). I shared an apartment with several different nationalities: Italian, French and German.

During the month, I was totally immersed at the heart of the 4 star hotel – constructed in a Victorian style, composed of over 54 bedrooms and 4 floors, The Thistle Hyde Park.

In this hotel, I did an internship as a receptionist, I was able to welcome guests and advise them on places that they should visit. It was not very clear for me at the start, I found it hard to integrate into the ready established team, because being a receptionist abroad was all quite new to me and above all the language barrier was also a problem. I knew that the English speak very fast, and sometimes I found it hard to understand their accent. Despite this, I successfully made the most of the situation little by little.

This mobility experience was enriching and beneficial for me. On a personal level, I was able to discover a country that I didn’t know at all (its culture, historical sites, its history). I also got to practice my English fluently and improve my level, appreciate the landscape and everything surrounding me. On a professional level, I was successful at working with other people that I didn’t know, who were of a different nationality, as well as learn more technical vocabulary. In the tourism sector, I can share my skills and learn from others at the same time.

For me, it was the first time that I worked abroad, and in a hotel, I will always have good memories of this experience, thanks to whom, I will feel more at ease if I go abroad again in the future (for a language course or another job in a hotel or a museum for example). This internship has made me want to travel a little more and discover new cultural horizons.

I only stayed in London for a month, and I found this a little too short. I would have liked to stay longer.

To conclude, I think that I would recommend doing a mobility experience and going to the UK to anyone. If they blossomed as much as I did, they would want to return as much I do. Despite that life can be a little expensive; but you will learn a tremendous amount of things. This experience has allowed me to get away and discover new things, perfect my English, make new friends, meet new people and have an experience in a working environment.

Etant intéressée par le domaine touristique depuis toujours, j’ai récemment fait une formation intitulée « TATAN » (Technicienne D’Accueil Touristique option Animation), qui se déroulait pendant 8 mois. Durant celle-ci, j’avais 3 stages à réaliser en entreprise.  Pour mon deuxième stage, la formation nous proposait de partir à l’étranger (avec le programme Léonardo), si on le souhaitait.

En ce qui me concerne, je suis donc partie en Angleterre, et plus précisément à Londres pendant un mois (du 18 Février au 15 Mars 2013). De plus, là-bas j’étais en colocation dans un appartement avec plusieurs nationalités différentes (italiens, français, et allemands).

Pendant un mois, j’étais en immersion totale au sein d’un hôtel 4 étoiles, de style victorien, composé de 54 chambres et de 4 étages, le : « Thistle Hyde Park ». Celui-ci se trouve pas très loin de la station de métro Lancaster Gate.

Dans cet hôtel, j’ai fais un stage en tant que réceptionniste, j’ai pu accueillir et conseiller des endroits à visiter aux clients qui venaient y séjourner. Ce n’était vraiment pas évident pour moi au début, j’ai eu du mal à m’intégrer dans l’équipe déjà établie, car c’était tout nouveau d’être réceptionniste à l’étranger, et surtout la barrière de la langue qui bloquait un peu (ne pas pouvoir parler avec sa langue maternelle mais avec celle du pays concerné). Il faut savoir que les anglais parlent très vite, et parfois j’ai du mal à les comprendre avec leur accent. Malgré ça, j’ai réussi à me faire à la situation petit à petit.

Cette mobilité était une expérience enrichissante et bénéfique pour moi. Sur le plan personnel : j’ai pu découvrir un pays que je ne connaissais pas du tout (culture, sites historiques et naturels, son Histoire…). De plus, j’ai pu pratiquer l’anglais assez couramment et améliorer mon niveau, apprécier le paysage et ce qui m’entoure.  En ce qui concerne mon opinion sur le plan professionnel : j’ai réussie à travailler avec des personnes que je ne connaissais pas, qui n’avaient pas la même nationalité que moi, ainsi qu’apprendre beaucoup plus de vocabulaire sur le domaine touristique. J’ai pu transmettre mes connaissances et apprendre celles des autres en même temps.

Pour ma part, c’était la première fois que je travaillais à l’étranger, et dans un hôtel. Je garde un bon souvenir de cette mobilité, grâce à cela je me sens plus à l’aise à l’avenir lorsque je retournerais à l’étranger (pour l’apprentissage de la langue), et pour un autre emploi là-bas, dans une structure comme un hôtel ou  un musée par exemple. Ce stage m’a donné l’envie de voyager un peu plus, afin de découvrir de nouveaux horizons culturels.

Je suis restée 1 mois à Londres (la durée de mon stage), malheureusement j’ai trouvé que ma période était trop courte. J’aurais bien aimée rester plus longtemps là-bas.

Enfin pour conclure, je pense que je recommanderais de faire une mobilité, et de partir au Royaume-Uni à tout le monde. Si elles s’épanouissent autant que moi, elles voudront y retourner autant que moi. Malgré que la vie soit assez chère là-bas, on apprend énormément de choses. Ce voyage permet de s’évader, tout en découvrant de nouvelles choses, perfectionner la langue, faire de nouvelles rencontres, créer des liens d’amitié, et avoir du travail sur place.
