Andrea flies to Manila

Coutry of origin: Germany

Country of destination: Philippines

A story by Andrea R.

The project YELL (Youth Entrepreneurship and Leadership Laboratory #YELL2015) was organized by partners from Poland, Spain, Vietnam and Philippines and co-financed by the European Program Erasmus+.

In Manila in Philippines was held one week seminar, where the participants visited social enterprises; got acquainted with the concept of what is a social enterprise; and learnt ways and possibilities of involving young people in Philippine’s economy.

3 ° C shows the thermometer at the airport in Berlin-Tegal. The warmness in the next morning in Manila after the very long flight is really pleasant. The hotel is in the city outskirts and the taxi ride gives a first insight into the conditions of the city. It is loud, colorful, lively and there are definitely too many cars on the road. The hotel is a small oasis of greenery and is perfect for a seminar.

After the arrival of all participants it’s time for breakfast: rice with sardines! It follows a round of introductions. English is for everyone a foreign language, but it works and soon we all chat with each other.

The next event in the schedule is an excursion to a volcanic lake and I soon discover that at noon under 35 ° C to breath heavily in the middle of dust near to small ponies easily connects people from different cultures. On the top we order a bunch of fresh coconuts and fruit drinks and enjoy the stunning view.

This trip thru half of the world has definitely broadened my horizons. I am glad to have met so many great people from different nations. The warmth of its inhabitants was indescribable and I felt always welcome.

A start has been made to establish a connection between Europe and Asia. I’m excited to see where this journey will lead me. Salamat! (Thank-you)

Salamat! (Dankeschön)
