Story in English:

In 2012 I was living a not too happy period in my life: I had lost the job in which I had been at more than five years, I had no expectations of placement and personally I was not at my best.

By chance I found out that my city council convenes Leonardo scholarships giving the opportunity to spend three months in Italy, Ireland and Germany. I analyze the situation and I think it is perhaps the opportunity I need at a professional and above all a personal: experience from abroad could help rearrange my life a bit. So I decide to participate choosing Italy as the destination Italy (I was attracted by the culture, nature and especially the mountains), I sign up for an intensive course in Italian and after various tests I am given the opportunity to go to Florence for three months, an opportunity I accept immediately.

Luck plays in my favor and I lived in a house with a companion in the program, a specialist in art history that helps me appreciate and artistically understand the beautiful city and with who I immediately create  a relationship of close friendship and understanding, we both live with a married  Florentine couple, retirees who make life as easy as possible and treat us like real family members giving us freedom while closeness and warmth, we meet their children and grandchildren, they give us guided city tours, teach cook traditional cuisine … and what is better, today I continue to keep in touch with my dear Florentine “caseros” and of course with my roommate.

The intermediary organization, Academia di Firenze, which I can only speak well of, organizes an Italian course with academy Europass di Firenze for one month, luckily I’m the only one of my program assigned to A2 level and thus I can meet people from different nationalities (German, Austrian, Mexican, Belgian and American) with I make a very good relationship, thanks to my great teacher makes in the classroom and learn Italian and make  friendships.

During this period I also dedicate it to getting to know the city and its surroundings, customs and Italian culture, while my tutor and I have to look and decide where the best organization for the internship. After several disappointments my tutor gives me an option entirely captivating and terrifying at the same time: I go to work in a National Park where live isolated in a forest house in the middle of the forest (the nearest village is 6 km) with other kids of different nationalities who are volunteering and interning, my job will be to participate in a project for the conservation of wolf and make studies of flora and fauna. My background and my work experience are suitable for the job but the personal part scares me especially with the isolation that I will face and to leave Florence, the city in which I was far happier and autonomous. On the other hand, it is the dream of my life, so I accept.

The adventure begins, thanks to my amazing boss, I do the craziest of jobs I had ever dreamed of, I meet a lot of Italian and foreign people and live the most intense experience of my life where I feel a strong personal knowledge. Also at that time I know the person who is now my partner. I can definitely say that those two months lived in the woods surrounded by nature young people have been the most intense and happiest of my life from many points of view.

But the dream is over and when I am once again in my country I begin to wonder about many fundamental things in my life. After a month of reflection I decided to return to Italy and try to live in the mountains where I was so happy, thanks to my experience I had various contacts and in a few months I got a job related to my degree in the place I wanted to work, the Apennines mountains. For more than a year and a half I have been working at “what I like”, I live with my Italian  guy in a village with no more than 20 people where we are all one big family and I can say I would not change anything about my life, only to have my  family closer. So, as you can imagine, I am totally grateful to Leonardo da Vinci and all the people that have been part of my experience that has allowed me to evolve as a person and above all know myself better.
