From Carmona to Palermo, a wonderful Youth Exchange!

I’m Elena from Carmona, Sevilla, and I’ve participated recently in a mobility program (a Youth Exchange) in order to learn about other cultures and traveling, considering what he could learn for my personal and professional life.

If I stayed in Palermo it would be because it is a lovely place to live; you can walk almost everywhere, people are looking how to help others, although if you do not know their language well, and the food is excellent! In addition, the relaxed ambience suggests a quiet and unhurried life.

This exchange has personally increased my level of communication and expression with others, and also allowed to know myself and my culture better after sharing experiences with other Spanish, German and Italian people and realities. At the same time I could develop a capacity to adapt to a completely new place.

From the professional point of view, my level of English has increased immediately. The activities we developed offered me new techniques to develop plays and informal learning with people and also I have learned to work with people very different from me.

I firmly believe that mobility has helped me to feel like a European citizen; I feel more European now than before the mobility, and this is because I shared so much with people that are so different to me and, at the same time, so similar. I recommend this culture shock to everyone since my return to Spain, as it helps to open their minds and know yourself better, plus you get unrivaled experiences.

Soy Elena, de Carmona, Sevilla, y participé en este programa de movilidad con el fin de conocer otras culturas y viajar, teniendo en cuenta qué podía aprender para mi vida personal y profesional.

 Si me quedase en Palermo sería porque es un sitio precioso para vivir, se puede ir andando a casi todos los lugares, la gente busca cómo ayudarte aunque no conozcas su idioma bien y la comida es inmejorable. Además, el ambiente relajado hace pensar en un ritmo de vida tranquilo y sin prisas.

Este intercambio ha supuesto a nivel personal un incremento de mi nivel de comunicación y expresión con los demás, conocerme mejor después de compartir las realidades española, alemana e italiana, y el desarrollo de una gran capacidad de adaptación a un lugar completamente nuevo.

Desde el punto de vista profesional, el incremento del nivel de inglés ha sido inmediato, me ha ofrecido nuevas técnicas para desarrollar actividades con personas y he aprendido a trabajar con personas muy diferentes a mí.

Creo firmemente que la movilidad me ha ayudado a sentirme como una ciudadana europea, que formo más parte de Europa que antes al poder haber compartido tanto con personas tan diferentes pero tan similares a la vez. Recomiendo ese choque cultural a todo el mundo desde mi regreso a España, puesto que ayuda mucho a abrir la mente y a conocerse mejor a uno mismo, además de obtener unas experiencias inigualables.
