Greetings from the clouds!

First I will introduce myself, I’m Beatrice, a 20 years old Italian girl and I participated in the Leonardo da Vinci project in Barcelona (Spain). After getting my degree in Tourism, I realized that I didn’t have a clear idea about what should I do in my future. I tried to find a job but I wasn’t successful so I decided to join a project that gave you the chance to win a scholarship to go abroad and do a professional internship in the tourism sector.
With little hope I sent my application and… I got the scholarship! Then I had an interview in Brescia in December 2012 and I participated in a 3 days training on the possible difficulties and differences in the new country. So, a girl who had never traveled on her own, eagerly picked up her luggage full of hopes. From the very first moment I already felt a citizen of an amazing place where the differences are subjected to curiosity and creativity, and not discrimination. Every day in this experience I was finding a real motivation to keep fighting and chasing my goals. I decided to stay in Barcelona which is full of tourism related business and keep working in this area. I learned languages, as well as to live with unknown people, to interact with different social groups. Today, after over a year, I have gained experience not only on the working level, but also on the personal one. I’m doing a course to become a flight stewardess, one of my dreams.
I dedicate this story to anyone who wants to join this adventure and take advantage of it in a smart and an ambitious way. We need to know and respect the fact that each of us have our own motives and goals and therefore they are different. Personally I think the benefit of a scholarship doesn’t mean only “fun”, but it is a source of growth further beyond that word. And also you can learn that sometimes, things that seem weird and strange in your country in another one might be normal.

Me presento, soy Beatrice, una chica italiana de 20 años y he participado al Proyecto Leonardo da Vinci en Barcelona (España). Como a muchos estudiantes pasa, terminados los estudios en Turismo, me dí cuenta que no tenía una idea bien clara sobre que hacer de mi futuro. Pasados unos meses sin haber encontrado un trabajo, decidí de inscribirme a un proyecto que daba la posibilidad de ganar una beca profesional de practica de turismo en el extranjero. Sin tener mucha esperanza, envié mi candidatura y recibí una respuesta positiva, pasada la entrevista en Brescia en el Diciembre 2012, hice una formación de tres días sobre las posibles dificultades y diferencias en el nuevo país. Así que, una chica que nunca había viajado sola, cogió su maleta con muchas ganas y ilusiones. Desde las primeras semanas ya me sentía ciudadana de un sitio increíble, donde las diferencias son fruto de curiosidad y creatividad y no causa de discriminación. Cada día encontraba en esta experiencia una motivación para seguir luchando y persiguiendo mis metas. Decidí de quedarme para trabajar en la hostelería, ramo del turismo, que no falta en esta maravillosa ciudad. He aprendido idiomas, a vivir con gente desconocida, a relacionarme con grupos sociales muy diferentes. Al día de hoy, después de más de un año, no solo he adquirido experiencia a nivel laboral, pero también personal. Me estoy formando para trabajar como azafata de vuelo, uno de mis sueños. Dedico esta historia a quien quiera lanzarse en esta aventura y aprovecharla de forma inteligente y ambiciosa. Tenemos que saber y respectar que cada uno de nosotros tiene motivos y metas proprias y por tanto diferentes. Personalmente creo que beneficiar de una beca no significa solo “diversión”, pero es motivo de crecimiento a 360 grados, bastante más allá de esta palabra. Lo que destaca también del proyecto es el echo de aprender que lo que puede parecer raro y extraño en tu país, en otro es la normalidad. Un saludo desde mi querida ciudad adoptiva y desde las nubes!
