As a keen travel enthusiast and an Anglophile, I had always wanted to go to the UK to experience the British lifestyle: from “trying” to speak British English, drinking tea with milk and driving on the left to being a part of the British education system as well as battling rain every 10 to 20 minutes. During the one semester that I spent on my Erasmus exchange, I had experienced all that and much, much more. As an international/Erasmus student, I met people from all over the world that I can now call friends. I expanded my vocabulary not only in English but also in languages of my French and German flatmates. I explored British culture, landscape, and cities. And last but not least, I was able to use what I had learned in England in my studies at home. The whole experience gave me a sense of connectedness within Europe and it opened many international doors for me: after my Erasmus, I was an au pair in Ireland, and later, I also worked as a Comenius teaching assistant in England. Based on the amazing adventures that I experienced abroad, I would recommend anyone to go out of their comfort zone and study, work, and travel in a foreign country because the memories you create stay with you for a lifetime.
