A Story by Bruno Neves

Country of Origin: Portugal

Destination: Italy – Padova

In recent years, students who finished their training at my school have had the opportunity to live the experience of working abroad through the Leonardo da Vinci European programme.

After seeing some colleagues going abroad, I realized that if I went, it would be an opportunity to increase my professional experience, improve career opportunities and above all, do something different and personally relevant. The opportunity to learn new ways of working, the opportunity to learn a new language, to have a new life experience and above all to get to know and enjoy a new country.

At first, in the company where I worked, I was concerned about the kind of people I would find and the type of reactions that they might have because of working with a foreigner, but my fears went away when I realized I was working with spectacular and wise people. I really enjoyed the tasks that were given to me, but I decided not to confirm the possibility to stay at the company, since there was not a direct invitation and in spite of the very positive comments of other workers about my performance. I want to achieve my goals here in Portugal!

In the company I helped to implement the projects that were being developed. Produced all electrical and electronic part and it was very important to me to understand how to assemble a machine, a robot and a production line, because I want to follow the area of Industrial Maintenance and there is no one better to do the maintenance of a machine than its builder.

I obviously advise all people to live this cultural and professional experience.
