My trip to Ireland brought me good luck!

A story by Victoria

Country of origin: Germany

Country of destination: Ireland

When I applied to the GEB, my life was at a turning point. I had been working for a long time and I knew something would have to change soon. Ever since i was a teenager, I had had the desire to gain experience abroad and to improve my English, but maybe I had to be older befDSC_1591ore I could actually choose to do it. I had heard from a friend about the organization and the possibility of using the Leonardo da Vinci program to gain work experience abroad, and thought to myself, that I had nothing to lose. As it turned out, I got the confirmation that I had got a bursary and that I could move abroad relatively quickly. After some consideration, I decided to go to Londonderry and try my luck on the island of Ireland.

Unlike life in the metropolis of Berlin, here I now experienced a period of peace and serenity. The people were very warm and helpful and they always have a good sense of humor. And also the nature and the landscape was so stunning all over, so it is just worth seeing and nice to travel around the entire country.

My stay abroad has helped me personally very much. I could prove to myself, that I had a lot more abilities than I had ever realised. I have met very special people and it has developed valuable relationships as well. The similarities of the cultures and characteristics of Europeans has become clear to me and Europe is no longer quite as big and strange as I had believed before. Realising this has made me more open to working abroad and it is no longer far-fetched for me to find work outside Germany.

Therefore I would recommend this step to anyone who is open to such an experience. The personal development that can be achieved from this is great and you can meet people who can enrich and change your life. It is never too late to give it a go and everybody has it in their own hands to make the best of it.

I did it and Ireland has brought me a lot of luck!
