I decided to participate in a mobility program to try to find new opportunities and develop myself professionally. At the time I needed to try new realities of work. It seemed an excellent opportunity to broaden my horizons and grow, both professionally and personally.
I didn’t stayed in Florence, not by my decision, but I knew from the beginning that there was no opportunity to stay at the company where did my internship, because they were not hiring anyone to stay. Although there was a chance to a possible collaboration at distance and if they needed someone full-time, I would be contacted. Also the project had a mandatory date of return. Nevertheless I keep in touch with the team and the leader of the company.
After the period of mobility, I tried to apply myself to some work there but I did not succeed, but I didn’t put aside a possible return. These 3 months were brilliant!
From a personal standpoint this experience brought me an enormous capacity for adaptation and understanding of others and other cultures / realities. I lived and interact with people of all ages and from all sides: Spanish, German, Italian, English, Mexicans, Americans… It was wonderfull to know and communicat with all of them. I had the opportunity to travel a lot, to meet one of the richest cities in the world in what concerns art, and for me, being a person of the arts field, it was very special and an opportunity of a lifetime. Professionally, I learned a lot about web design and web marketing with my collegues of the company: met new techniques, to work better under stress and tight deadlines, some programming also and especially how to manage some projects alone. I also made some contacts and it allowed me to gain more confidence and autonomy.
This mobility helped me, without any doubt, to feel more European citizen. We live sometimes so closed in our reality (the reality of our city, our country) that we forget that we are a small part in all that is Europe and that being different is not bad, it’s good and that’s what makes us a rich continent.
I didn’t had such a clear idea of how different we are from country to country, though deep down, we are all alike in terms of our dreams, concerns… Same ambitions, same fears, and once exceeded the initial mistrust and the language barrier I felt always as an equal to all others. It didn’t matter if it was the same country or not.
This was an unique and fantastic experience with a huge impact in me. I always give strength to my friends to participate in the program like this. They can profit, like me and all the other young people who participated and they can return with many stories to tell and we also learn a lot with all the moments.
I participated in 2011 and I still speak as if it was yesterday.
Decidi participar num programa de mobilidade para tentar encontrar novas oportunidades e evoluir a nível profissional. Na altura estava a precisar de experimentar novas realidades de trabalho. Pareceu-me uma excelente oportunidade de alargar horizontes e de crescer, tanto a nível profissional como pessoal.
Não ficar em Florença não foi propriamente uma decisão tomada por mim. Não houve oportunidade para ficar na empresa onde estagiei, algo que soube logo quando comecei o estágio, pois não estavam a contratar ninguém. Mas ficou no ar uma possível colaboração à distância e caso precisassem de alguém em full-time iriam contactar-me. Além disso o projecto pelo qual participei tinha uma data de regresso obrigatória. Apesar disso mantenho, contacto com a equipa e com o responsável da empresa.
Depois do período de mobilidade tentei candidatar-me a alguns trabalhos por lá mas não tive sucesso, mas não pus de parte um possível regresso. Estes 3 meses foram geniais!
Do ponto de vista pessoal esta experiência trouxe-me uma enorme capacidade de adaptação e de compreensão dos outros e de outras culturas/realidades. Vivi e convivi com pessoas de todas as idades e de todos os lados: espanhóis, alemães, italianos, ingleses, mexicanos, americanos… Foi bastante enriquecedor ter de saber estar e comunicar com todos eles. Tive a oportunidade de viajar bastante, de conhecer uma das cidades mais ricas em arte do mundo, tanta coisa começou lá… e sendo eu uma pessoa das artes foi assim um presente muito especial e uma oportunidade única na vida. Profissionalmente, aprendi bastante na área do webdesign e webmarketing com os colegas da empresa: conheci novas técnicas, a trabalhar melhor sobre stress e prazos apertados, um pouco de programação também e sobretudo como gerir alguns projectos sozinho. Fiz também alguns contactos e no geral permitiu-me ganhar mais confiança e autonomia.
Esta mobilidade ajudou-me, sem qualquer dúvida, a sentir-me um cidadão Europeu. Vivemos por vezes tão fechados na nossa realidade (a realidade da nossa cidade, do nosso país) que nos esquecemos que somos uma pequena peça num todo que é a Europa e que sermos diferentes não é mau, é bom e é isso que nos torna um continente riquíssimo. Não tinha uma noção tão clara do quão diferente somos de país para país, ainda que no fundo sejamos todos parecidos ao nível dos nossos sonhos, inquietações… Mesmas ambições, mesmos receios e uma vez ultrapassada a desconfiança inicial e a barreira da língua senti-me sempre como um igual a todos os outros. Não interessava se era do mesmo país ou não.
Esta foi uma experiência única e fantástica, que me marcou imenso pela positiva. Ainda hoje dou força aos meus amigos para participarem num programa do género. Participei em 2011 e ainda falo nela como se tivesse sido ontem. Só têm a ganhar assim como eu e todos os outros jovens que já participaram e que regressam com muitas histórias a contar e que aprenderam também com os momentos menos bons.
